The Shkhem Gate (Shaar Shkhem, שער שכם) is one of the eight gates built into the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. Located between the Christian and the Muslim quarters, it is also known as “The Damascus Gate” or “Bab-al-Amud’, meaning Gate of the Column in arabic. In front of the gate stood a Roman victory column, at the time of the Emperor Hadrian.
