Bet El – The site of Jacob’s Dream Discovered ?

December 4th, 2011

For many years, the site of Jacob’s dream was identified in a Roman – Byzantine citadel named Burj Bitin located south of the Arab village of Bitin, near Ramallah. In a new documentary, just released today, Dr. Hagi Ben-Artzi brings the archaeological discoveries in a site named Makam Sheikh Abdallah, near the settlement of Bet El.

These findings prove the theory suggested by Prof. Zeev Vilnai, that the site of Jacob’s dream became the site of the Temple of King Jeroboam in Makam Sheikh Abdallah. In recent years, the archaeological findings proved this was the site of the Israelite Temple which was probably located on the site of Jacob’s dream.

The documentary brings the first pictures from the archaeological findings and the accumulation of facts which can lead to the conclusion that the site of Jacob’s dream has been discovered. (Arutz7)

Givat Halfon : a cult Israeli comedy film

November 26th, 2011

Giv’at Halfon Eina Ona (Hebrew: גבעת חלפון אינה עונה‎) also credited as Halfon Hill Doesn’t Answer, is a cult Israeli comedy film produced in 1976. It is a good-hearted satire movie about the Israel Defense Forces which tells the story of a reserves company, watching the Egyptian border in Sinai. Characters such as the conman Sergio Constanza, the Egyptian-born Mr. Hasson and the huge cook Yosifoun became classics.

The name of the film is a parody of the name of the Israeli patriotic film Giv’a 24 Eina Ona (Hill 24 Doesn’t Answer). The film was directed by Assi Dayan and features members of HaGashash HaHiver: Shaike Levi, Yisrael Poliakov and Gavri Banai.

Write to Jonathan Pollard, 9377 days in captivity

July 25th, 2011

Jonathan Pollard was a civilian American Naval intelligence analyst. In the mid 1980′s (circa 1983-1984), Pollard discovered that information vital to Israel’s security was being deliberately withheld by certain elements within the U.S. national security establishment. Israel was legally entitled to this vital security information according to a 1983 Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

The information being withheld from Israel included Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan and Iranian nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare capabilities – being developed for use against Israel. It also included information on ballistic missile development by these countries and information on planned terrorist attacks against Israeli civilian targets. (more…)

A Rabbi Nachman’s tale : “The Master of Prayer”

July 25th, 2011

Rebbe Nachman is famous for the many tales he wrote, containing many kabbalistic themes and hidden allusions.

Here is one of them :

THE MASTER OF PRAYER

Once there was a Master of Prayer, who always devoted himself to prayer, songs and praises to the Holy One, Blessed be He. He dwelled outside of the settlement, but he often entered into the settlement. He would engage someone in discussion, typically people of low standing, such as destitute people and the like. He would speak to them heart to heart, about the purpose of life. That in essence, the only true purpose is to serve the L-rd all the days of one’s life, to spend one’s days praying to the L-rd, and in songs and praises. (more…)

IDF launches new website

June 5th, 2011

The website has been redesigned and upgraded and will now be synchronized with social networks.

The website will be the official gateway to the IDF online, and will eventually serve as a portal to the various IDF related websites. The site will provide news updates and information (also during emergencies), serving as an official IDF channel relaying directly to both the public in Israel and abroad.

New visual and content upgrades have been made, adding official operational updates, IDF Spokesperson announcements (including archives) and articles from the various IDF commands and branches written by the website’s team of journalists. The website, updated 24/7, will include features on routine and operational activity, and special events.

The new English IDF website

Approximately 700,000 visits are made to the IDF website every month, 65% of which are from Israel with the remainder visiting from over 150 countries worldwide. During operational events the site is updated in real time, and the number of page views is five times the normal daily traffic.

The IDF website can be viewed in Hebrew and English, and in the future, will be available in French and Arabic.

The IDF website is operated by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit and commanded by Cpt. Tzahi Biran, who also serves as its editor-in-chief and oversees a staff of twenty soldiers: editors, reporters and translators. “The main improvement the revamped website offers is the natural sync with the official IDF social network platforms. It is clear to us that internet surfers live through social networks, and look to them for information, using them to directly contact the IDF”, said Cpt. Biran. (IDF Spokeperson)
